Programme overview

A balanced sound is the whole job

Sound process engineering is the craft behind everything you hear on a record, a film or a stream — capturing it, balancing it, shaping it, and finishing it so it holds up on every system it lands on.

The degree covers that whole chain: recording a live performance, balancing and correcting it, layering effects and reinforcement, and mastering the result. You will work across music, film and television, web series, animation, podcasts and games — because in practice a working engineer moves between all of them.

IIFA teaches this as a studio subject. The syllabus is built around practical training, so that when something goes wrong in a session — and it will — you can hear what is wrong and fix it, rather than recognise it from a textbook.
